About Your Instructor

Kamyar (Kamy R) was born on 28th November 1978 in Tehran, Iran. He moved to Paris with his family when he was less than two years old and attended music conservatory school for eight years playing piano as his primary instrument. He grew up with musical influences ranging from Jazz, Blues, HipHop/R&B, Soul, Funk along with Middle Eastern scales and techniques. Kamyar later went on to get his BA from Sorbonne University in Paris.

Recognized as a child piano prodigy with the ability to effortlessly improvise in any situation, Kamyar began composing and producing music from the age of 12.  He also plays percussion, bass guitar, melodica, flute, santoor and setar. In his late teens, Kamyar along with other fellow musicians took to the streets and metro of Paris to perform music which had a significant spiritual impact on Kamyar’s growth as a singer/musician.

In 2003, Kamyar made the transition from Paris to Los Angeles where he pursued his career in the Persian market as the new lead singer of the extremely popular Persian band called "Black Cats" for 5 years. With his new style of Persian R&B and his ability to sing in more than eight languages, Kamyar swept the Persian community off its feet and became a star overnight with hit songs "Joone Khodet (Ey Khanom Koja Koja)", "Majnoon (Bia Bia Delam Barat Tange)", "Nemikhamet" and much more.

Kamyar's solo debut album "DOBAREH" was released in November 2010 worldwide and received critical acclaim for bringing an international sound to the Persian music industry and breaking the traditional barriers of conventional Persian pop. The first hits off the album were "Dobareh" & "Ey Jan" with both music videos directed by Alec Cartio. Other hits include "Az Daste To" featuring Hossein Tohi, "Nazdike Man" and “Dare Bavaram Mishe" featuring Saeed Panter.  Over the years, his other hits include "Nazanin Naz Nakon" featuring Nariman, "Nemidoonam", "Hamsafar" featuring legendary singer Sattar,  "Ashegh Mimoonam", “Asan Ye Vazi”and “Joon”. Kamyar also collaborated with DJ Mamsi with songs such as "Dobareh” and "Ashegh Mimoonam”.

To date the singer has toured in the US, UK, Canada, Europe and the Middle East and some of the venues have included the Kodak/Dolby Theater, Hollywood Bowl, The Forum, Universal Gibson Amphitheater, Nokia Theatre, Royce Hall, The Beverly Hilton, Vanguard, Planet Hollywood and Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Kamyar has been featured on International televisions such as BBC, TMZ, France 3, VOA, RadioJavan, ManoTo, GEM and magazine covers.

In 2009, Kamyar was asked to perform the US National Anthem at an NBA game at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

While he has shared the stage with numerous Persian Artists, Kamyar’s goal is to transcend into the international market and sing with some of his biggest influences. Towards the end of 2011, Kamyar had the opportunity to share the stage and sing with his idol Stevie Wonder through two separate events; Stevie Wonder’s 16th Annual House Full of Toys concert and the ‘Never Again’ Peace Concert honoring Stevie Wonder. Other artists that performed on these nights included Justin Bieber, Drake, Chaka Khan, Eric Benet, Michael McDonald and Charlie Wilson. In June 2019, he toured Canada and USA with Internationally known singer Ishtar Alabina and the Gypsies. He has also shared the stage with Persian legends such as Ebi, Googoosh, Dariush, Sattar and Shahram Shabpareh just to name a few.

Kamyar's most recent release was in September, 2020 with a motivational R&B single featuring one of Iran's biggest rappers Reza Pishro called "Pasho" which he produced and arranged.
